Since his debut recording released in 1997, Arcadi Volodos, is celebrated as a keyboard genius, and is without a doubt one of today's most outstanding and internationally interesting pianists. His unlimited virtuosity along with his unique sense of timing, colour and poetry made him a romantic narrator of intensive stories.

On March 1st 2009 Volodos played at the Musikverein in Vienna, and subsequently toured the Vienna concert program in several German cities such as Essen, Düsseldorf, Berlin, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Baden-Baden, Schwetzigen, and has received sensational reviews.

Four years after his fascinating and highly praised album with works of the Spanish composer Mompou, Arcadi Volodos went into the Berlin Teldex Studio again to deliver another reference recording, this time with the music of Johannes Brahms. Volodos has played the Brahms solo pieces over the past years in places all over the world and received highest critical acclaim for his interpretation. The Brahms solo works are perfect to show Volodos unique ability to create a special and magic sound, a sound “which lifts us, the listener, into the air and which makes us believe that the world is floating' (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung). Recorded in the famous Teldex Studios Berlin in three sessions (2015 - 2017) on a great Steinway Grand Piano specially tuned by Michel Brandjes, one of the best tuners in the world. There is no editing in this recording. Volodos played every piece over and over again to develop his idea of structure and sound and chose the best version of each piece after the end of the recording.

Polychoral music is so synonymous with 16th century Venice that it is easy to forget that the longest flourishing of this style- possibly even its invention- took place in Germany. Whether or not it was in Munich with the works of Orlande de Lassus that the Gabrielis first encountered its effects, polychoral music came to define German textures and techniques for over a century. Both apprentices and rivals to their Italian counterparts, composers such as Hieronymus Praetorius, Schutz, Hassler and Scheidt, as well as Austria's Biber, fostered a tradition whose influence would extend all the way to the motets of Bach. This performance places a giant of Baroque choral music, Biber's Missa Salisburgensis, alongside the Venetian choral works of Monteverdi from which it takes its inspiration. The combination is a heady one, a triumphal musical celebration uniquely appropriate to mark the 200th anniversary year of Salzburg's affiliation with Austria.

Now enjoying cult status since her 're-discovery' twenty five years ago, Hildegard von Bingen, the tenth child of an aristocratic family, entered a convent at the age of eight and spent the remainder of her eighty years as a nun as well as a mystic, the latter half as abbess of her own convent. Hildegard's great musico-poetic collection was completed around the year 1150. Symphonia armonie celestium revelationum (Symphony of the Harmony of Heavenly Revelations) is a collection of 77 songs and one music drama. The subjects of these songs are an idiosyncratic collection of individuals and groups - the pieces included on this recording are variously addressed to the Creator, the Redeemer, the Blessed Virgin Mary, St John the Evangelist, Apostles, Confessors, and Martyrs.

An operatic dream came true in May 2016, when two singers made their role debuts as Lohengrin and Elsa at the Dresden State Opera.

Previously at home in French and Italian lyric tenor roles, Piotr Beczala was expanding his repertory in a direction that many opera fans had long wanted him to explore, while Anna Netrebko - previously hailed as the “queen of bel canto” - was undertaking her first Wagnerian role. It was also her first foray into the lyric-dramatic repertory.

Both singers had been persuaded to take on their new roles by the Dresden Staatskapelle's principal conductor, Christian Thielemann, one of the leading Wagner conductors of our day.

Seldom has the world of opera been as excited as it was by these performances, public and press revealing a rare unanimity in hailing them as outstanding. Die Presse spoke of a “starry occasion”, while Die Welt described it as “musically one of the finest Lohengrins of all time - a Lohen-Dream”. This punning was evidently catching, for the Münchner Merkur attempted a conflation of the German terms for swan (Schwan) and madness (Wahnsinn) and produced the portmanteau word Schwahnsinn. A substantial part in the production's success was played by Georg Zeppenfeld as King Henry, Evelyn Herlitzius as Ortrud, Tomasz Konieczny as Telramund, Derek Welton as the Herald and the Dresden State Opera Chorus. Together they formed a Wagner ensemble so splendid that - in the words of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung - “none better could currently be wished for”.

This year, we are proud to release on DVD/Blu-ray the celebrated production of “Parsifal” which was premiered on 25 July 2016, directed by Uwe Eric Laufenberg and conducted by Hartmut Haenchen

Hartmut Haenchen in his belated Bayreuth debut conducts from his own edition of the score

With Klaus Florian Vogt “as a powerfully heroic Parsifal (…), the beautiful gold, silver piercing iron of Elena Pankratova's voice as Kundry” (…), Georg Zeppenfeld as a slim Gurnemanz providing unparalleled vocal command (...) and Ryan McKinny as a noble and agonised Amfortas.” (Telegraph)

Nils Mönkemeyer has been hailed as one of the leading violists of his generation. For this recording, Nils has selected four of his favourite works by Walton, Bruch and Pärt and is joined by the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Markus Poschner. The Viola Concerto by Sir William Walton (1902-1983) showcases traditional English tone, enhanced by the sounds and rhythms of jazz. The German composer Max Bruch (1838-1920) is represented by two Romantic works, Kol nidrei, the original cello part of which acquires a unique timbre in Nils Mönkemeyer's arrangement for the viola, and the Romance for viola and orchestra. The fourth and final major work included here is Fratres by Arvo Pärt (*1935). Although published in 1977, it had to wait until 2008 to be heard in its version for viola, string orchestra and percussion.
