The Endellion String Quartet is renowned as one of the finest string quartets in the world. This DVD contains a performance of three Beethoven quartets - Opus 18, no. 6, String Quartet in B flat major, Opus 59, no.2 String Quartet in E minor Razumovsky & Opus 131, String Quartet in C sharp minor. The quartet scores used in these recordings were prepared by the notable Beethoven scholar and editor, Jonathan Del Mar in collaboration with the Endellion Quartet. ... these superb musicians respond to the dark undertow so characteristic of Beethoven's quartets as much as the gentle lyricism which invariably breaks through. The Observer (on Beethoven String Quartets Vol.2)

A setlist like no other, a never-heard-before compilation of deeply moving musical pieces highlighting numerous aspects of war and peace. This is how the Wiener Philharmoniker, led by Franz Welser-Möst and supported by an all-star line-up, among them singular pianist Yuja Wang, tackled the highly anticipated concert in commemoration of the end of the 1st world war. 100 years after the first of the devastating humane catastrophes of the 20th century officially ended at Versailles, a group of inspired musicians gathered at the historic site for a concert that will live on in the memory of those who have seen or heard it.

Beauty, purity, and expressivity mark out music for upper voice choirs. On this recording, performed by one of the UK's leading vocal ensembles, the repertoire embraces classics of the genre such as Gustav Holst's sublime Ave Maria and his third group of Hymns from the Rig Veda, as well as contemporary music. James MacMillan and Sir John Tavener are represented by works that explore their unique musical language, whilst Bob Chilcott's technically demanding The Song of the Stars offers richly approachable pleasures.

One of the leading members of the Munich School, most famously represented by Richard Strauss, Ludwig Thuille was a prolific composer whose Sextet today remains the best known of his many chamber works.

Influenced by Rheinberger, Liszt and Wagner, Thuille's Sextet also recalls Brahms's deft mastery, particularly with regard to his arching melodies, scrupulous handling of instrumental textures and technical skill.

His second Piano Quintet, likewise notable for its formal mastery and dramatic contrasts, boasts many passages of thrilling intensity, counterpoint and surging lyricism.

Daniil Trifonov has been described by The Times as 'the finest young pianist of our age'.

After his successful 'Rachmaninov Variations' last year, he has now created another statement to define his extraordinary and growing legacy. It is dedicated to the greatest pianist of his own century: Franz Liszt.

The repertoire is Liszt's Complete Concert Etudes. These Etudes remain amongst the most challenging piano pieces ever composed - and are rarely recorded or performed. This is the first time that the Complete Liszt Etudes have been recorded as a whole for DG. And Daniil Trifonov is one of the few pianists to have recorded them all in one go - in an unbelievable five days.

Beyond his phenomenal technique, Daniil Trifonov is a distinctly Russian artist: an intense, soulful musician in the great Russian tradition whose presentation and repertoire set him apart from all other young piano stars of today.

Born in Kiev, Ukraine, Valentina began playing the piano at the age of three and performed her first solo recital just one year later. She has won prestigious awards for her playing internationally, including the Murray Dranoff Two Piano Competition (together with her husband Alexei Kuznetsoff).

Valentina Lisitsa has already performed at major international venues including Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall in New York and the Vienna Musikverein, and in countries as far apart as the Netherlands and Brazil. She has played with renowned orchestras including Chicago Symphony, Seattle Symphony, San Francisco Symphony and the Pittsburgh Symphony, collaborating with conductors Manfred Honeck, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and Jukka-Pekka Saraste, among others. Upcoming performances are confirmed with the Rotterdam Philharmonic, Philharmonie im Gasteig, Munich with Münchner Symphoniker and recitals at the Victoria Hall in Geneva and Philharmonie in Berlin.

With more than 43 million views and over 52,000 subscribers to her YouTube channel, the young pianist is not only one of the fastest-rising stars of the international concert scene but probably the single most-watched classical musician, having rapidly overtaken long-established giants of the piano world in terms of global online viewing figures.

'Concerto Köln - the silver-toned Rolls-Royce of period ensembles - handles this journey with suave style and flawless control…Valer Sabadus makes for a refined Farinelli, and where his smoky voice lacks in power, it gains in agility. He breezes through the coloratura arias, with their virtuoso roulades and vertiginous leaps…He really shines, though, in the more intimate arias.' BBC Music Magazine

Tal & Groethuysen are without doubt on of the world's best piano duos and have received numerous international music awards for their recordings.

Ralph Vaughan Williams himself had arranged this version of his piano concerto for two pianos and orchestra and thus created an extraordinary colourful and impressive work as can be heard in Tal & Groethuysen's outstanding interpretation.

They are accompanied by the Musikkollegium Winterthur who also shine with their interpretation of Vaughan Williams' Symphony No. 5.
