Sonya Yoncheva devotes her second solo album to the music of Handel, showing another facet of her wide-ranging repertoire. Being an alumna of William Christie's Le Jardin des Voix, the Baroque era formed her musical understanding at an early stage of her career, laying the foundation for her versatile & broad-reaching repertoire. Currently praised as “the best Traviata in the world at present” (Die Welt), Sonya Yoncheva is one of today's fastest rising opera stars. She is a regular guest at the world's leading opera houses such as the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Bayerische Staatsoper, Berlin State Opera, Wiener Staatsoper & the Opéra de Paris. A great composer of vocal music, Handel based some of his most beautiful operas & oratories on the enchanting sensibility of the feminine voice. His heroines are strong, independent women determining their own destiny - attributes Sonya relates to in all respects. From Mar 3rd - Apr 18th, 2017 Sonya will embark on a concert tour featuring the Baroque repertoire highlighted on the Handel album release.

Sonya Yoncheva is one of today's fastest rising young opera stars. The young Bulgarian soprano first gained international prominence when she took first prize in the 2010 edition of Plácido Domingo's prestigious Operalia competition at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. She has collaborated with many artists from the world of opera, and also cross genres: with names from the rock and pop world such as Sting and Elvis Costello, as well as with outstanding classical musicians like Plácido Domingo and Jonas Kaufmann. 'Paris, mon amour' was recorded in one of Europe's most prestigious concert halls - the Palau de la Música in Valencia, under the baton of renowned conductor Frédéric Chaslin. This debut album concentrates on a particularly appealing period, the 'Belle Époque' 1871 to 1914. of cultural life. The 'Belle Époque' eminently suits Sonya, who communicates both elegance and panache onstage, both in her distinctive, multicolored voice and her irresistible personality. Forthcoming residency at the Royal Opera House London in 'Verdi 'La Traviata' - Violetta'. 'OPERA' magazines 'Record Of The Month' for May. The Guardian quotes 'Sonya Yoncheva is surely a star in the making'.

In her second Warner Classics album, entitled In Between, German-Italian pianist Sophie Pacini explores a fascinating series of personal and musical relationships: between Robert Schumann and Felix Mendelssohn; between Schumann and his wife Clara, and between Mendelssohn and his sister Fanny. Music by all four of them is complemented by Liszt's transcription of Schumann's glorious love song to Clara, 'Widmung'.

“When the Leopold Stokowski Society approached me with their idea that I should consider recording some of the Stokowski transcriptions, my first reaction was that these scores probably didn't need new versions, since Stokowski's numerous recordings were still available. But Edward Johnson from the Stokowski Society persisted and sent me numerous other recordings of these works by a number of conductors. After listening to a few of these versions I was persuaded to try my own hand. It is possible that because I remember the quality of sound that Stokowski obtained from orchestras, this might have given me an edge.” - José Serebrier, conductor

Leopold Stokowski was both one of the twentieth century's greatest conductors and an inveterate orchestral arranger. This compendium features a colourful selection of his transcriptions, which received the highest praise when first released in a series played by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra under the distinguished baton of José Serebrier, one-time associate conductor to Stokowski himself.

Leopold Stokowski arranged nearly 40 works from Bach's catalogue for the modern symphony orchestra, and José Serebrier's second volume of Bach-Stokowski Transcriptions is as colourful and wide-ranging as the first (8557883).

In response to popular and critical demand the present selection begins with the most famous Bach orchestration of all, the celebrated Toccata and Fugue in D minor. This reached its widest public in Walt Disney's Fantasia and here introduces a programme of sumptuous arrangements, including other music from the pre- and post- baroque periods.
