South African soprano Pretty Yende lives her Cinderella story in her brand new album, 'Dreams'.

Dreams is the theme of Pretty Yende's second album with signature pieces from the bel canto repertoire including 'Je veux vivre' from Gounod's Roméo et Juliet and Lucia's mad scene. Pretty Yende not only slips into the various dreams of young opera heroines but also pays homage to her own dream-come-true, becoming one of today's most celebrated sopranos. The Z.E.N. Trio - pianist Zhang Zuo, violinist Esther Yoo and cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan - met on the BBC New Generation Artists' scheme in 2015 and have since performed concerts together for BBC radio as well as across the UK and elsewhere in Europe.

While the trio's name, “Z.E.N.” is an acronym for the three artists' initials, it also represents the philosophy with which they approach chamber music making - the forgoing of the self for total togetherness.

An imaginative and electrifying performer, Zhang Zuo (“Zee Zee”) began her musical training in Germany at the age of five.

Upon returning to her native China, she became one of the most sought after young artists in the nation, collaborating with leading Chinese orchestras with whom she retains a close link.

Esther Yoo first came to international attention in 2010 when, aged 16, she became the youngest prize winner of the 10th International Sibelius Violin Competition.

From 2014 to 2016 she was a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, culminating in her BBC Proms debut.

Esther plays regular return engagements with Philharmonia Orchestra at London's Royal Festival Hall as well as with Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and has performed in tours across Asia and South America.

Since winning the Cello First Prize and Gold Medal at the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2011 at the age of 22, Narek Hakhnazaryan has performed with most major orchestras across the globe and has established himself internationally as one of the finest cellists of his generation.

It's just that simple. He does not sing just because he has a beautiful, expressive voice. He does not sing just because it brings him success and house-rocking acclaim. Fernando Varela sings because that is who he is. He sings what he loves, whether it is a pop standard, an original song he had a hand in writing, or Puccini's noblest tenor aria “Nessun dorma.” The underlying truth - who he is and what he does, in everything he dreams and achieves - is what brings Fernando Varela to the center of a worldwide stage with the release of Vivere.

The high wire act of this powerhouse voice can wow all kinds of audiences, from the opera house to a small club. If most tenors live in one sphere and like to dabble in another, Fernando Varela wants to embrace them all and reinvent the possibilities.

He puts that dream on the line with Vivere.

On his new album, the classically trained tenor bridges the gap between immortal Puccini arias such as “Nessun Dorma” and catchy pop hits like Christina Perri's “A Thousand Years” (from the Twilight Saga).

The South African-born pianist Renée Reznek is releasing her recording of new South African piano music on the Prima Facie label. Many of these pieces have been composed for Renée who specialises in twentieth century and new music. With the exception of Peter Klatzow's Barcarolle, these works are recorded here for the first time.

Speaking of the CD, Renée Reznek said: 'Recording this CD has given me a wonderful way to reconnect with the country I grew up in. I am so grateful to these distinguished composers for their fantastic music which reflects the rich, diverse culture of South Africa. 'The majority of the pieces on the CD combine traditional South African music with contemporary Western European techniques. This is true of PMB Impromptu, composed for Renée by internationally renowned composer Kevin Volans who like Renée grew up in Pietermaritzburg or PMB. Both Michael Blake's Broken Line , composed for Renée, and Robert Fokkens' Five Miniatures were inspired by Xhosa bow music. Similarly Hendrik Hofmeyr's Partita Africana and David Kosviner's Mbira Melody, also written for Renée, are sourced from local music traditions. Neo Muyanga's Hade Tata, a tribute to Nelson Mandela, celebrates the 20th anniversary of the first democratic elections in SA. Muyanga combines Nguni melodies with township jazz and struggle songs. Other pieces by David Earl and Peter Klatzow show a more European influence.

A rising composer's debut release on a major label, Gjeilo's album on Decca is an important release of heavenly, bewitching, eternal new choral music for our time. Ethereal yet tangible, this is music with wide appeal; music of purity and beauty; music at once restful and uplifting.

Composer Ola Gjeilo draws on influences from his Nordic background to conjure modern choral music of exceptional beauty. Radiant vocal textures are enhanced by transcendental instrumental additions; a twinkling piano performed by Ola himself; captivating, exquisite strings; and bewitching acoustic guitar.

Ethereal yet tangible, this is music with wide appeal; music of purity and beauty; music at once restful and uplifting.

Gjeilo - pronounced “Yay-lo” - has evolved a musical style which is at once contemporary and familiar. His concentrated harmonies and rich textures combined with graceful, engaging melody, contain echoes of Morten Lauridsen, Eric Whitacre, and the best luscious film scores.

Influenced by improvisers, along with composers such as John Adams, Desplat, Newman, Marinelli, Williams, Elgar, Vaughan-Williams and Tavener, Ola describes his music as “a lyrical mix of improvisation and classical”, and others often describe it as “cinematic… evocative, lush, story-telling…”

Daniel Barenboim continues his acclaimed Elgar series with the landmark First Symphony. These new issues mark the first time that indefatigable maestro Barenboim has returned to recording Elgar's symphonic works since the 1970s.

This recording is the latest step in maestro Barenboim's Elgarian journey with the Berlin Staatskapelle, following on from well-received performances of Elgar's Dream of Gerontius, the Cello Concerto (recorded live with Alisa Weilerstein for Decca), and Elgar's Second Symphony - about which the Guardian wrote: “The surging, unquenchable energy of this account is obvious from the opening bars, which are borne on an irresistible flood of sound from the Berlin Staatskapelle…”

This album was recorded live at Berlin's renowned Philharmonie, with the Berlin Staatskapelle and leading Elgarian record producer Andrew Keener.

Barenboim is a passionate Elgarian, counting The Dream of Gerontius as one of his favourite works. As a young man he worked regularly with Sir John Barbirolli, one of the greatest of all Elgar conductors and who was Jacqueline du Pré's partner in the classic EMI recording of the Cello Concerto.

Barenboim's latest Decca release follows his hugely successful Beethoven project of 2012, 2013's Verdi Requiem, and Elgar's Second Symphony in 2014.

This recording marks the first instalment of a long-term collaboration with one of the most exciting young conductors of our time: Andris Nelsons the newly appointed Music Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

The goal of this massive undertaking is a complete Shostakovich cycle on Deutsche Grammophon with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The core of which - Symphonies Nos. 5-10 - is scheduled for recording and release over the next two years.

Andris Nelsons has had a long journey with Shostakovich. He is one of the last conductors of his generation who still grew up in the Russian and, more especially, the Soviet musical tradition ever since he started his training as a conductor. He studied in St Petersburg with Alexander Titov and also with Mariss Jansons. His new orchestra has had a great tradition in performing many of Shostakovich's works in America for the first time.

The theme of the first album with Shostakovich´s 10th Symphony and Passacaglia from Lady Macbeth is a reflection on Shostakovich and Stalin. Lady Macbeth was the piece which brought criticism of his work and the radical change of style, whereas Symphony 10 is from the year Stalin died: the long arc of censorship of Shostakovich until Stalin's death, and the composer's response to this.
