In his first and only official autobiography, music icon Elton John reveals the truth about his extraordinary life, which is also the subject of the upcoming film Rocketman. The result is Me - the joyously funny, honest and moving story of the most enduringly successful singer/songwriter of all time.

Christened Reginald Dwight, he was a shy boy with Buddy Holly glasses who grew up in the London suburb of Pinner and dreamed of becoming a pop star. By the age of twenty-three, he was performing his first gig in America, facing an astonished audience in his bright yellow dungarees, a star-spangled T-shirt and boots with wings. Elton John had arrived and the music world would never be the same again.

His life has been full of drama, from the early rejection of his work with song-writing partner Bernie Taupin to spinning out of control as a chart-topping superstar; from half-heartedly trying to drown himself in his LA swimming pool to disco-dancing with the Queen; from friendships with John Lennon, Freddie Mercury and George Michael to setting up his AIDS Foundation. All the while, Elton was hiding a drug addiction that would grip him for over a decade.

In Me Elton also writes powerfully about getting clean and changing his life, about finding love with David Furnish and becoming a father. In a voice that is warm, humble and open, this is Elton on his music and his relationships, his passions and his mistakes. This is a story that will stay with you, by a living legend.

Ahmed Kathrada's autobiography is a moving, touching and often amusing read about a man who not only observed, but also actively participated in the shaping of a country's history.

Born a shopkeeper's son in the rural town of Schweizer-Reneke, he became the trusted confidante of some of the most prominent political figures in South Africa's struggle history, among them Nelson Mandela and Walter Sisulu. Politically active at the age of 10, and joining the Young Communists' League at 14, Kathrada - or 'Kathy', as friends and family affectionately called him - devoted his life to the freedom struggle in South Africa.

Persecuted, driven underground and sentenced to life imprisonment at the Rivonia Trial, Kathrada spent 18 years on Robben Island, where he grew close to both Mandela and Sisulu, whom he regarded as a second father.

On the island, in his tiny garden patch, Kathrada buried the original draft of Mandela's autobiography, until such time it could be smuggled to London. Having lived side by side with men who shaped the history of this country and assumed positions of power, Kathrada himself remained humble.

Eventually released from prison after 26 years, he eschewed a cabinet post, instead opting to oversee the Robben Island Museum project.

In this title, truly a collection of memoirs, he affords us rare glimpses into his and other activists' lives during the struggle and imprisonment, and sketches poignant cameos of those who would become South Africa's post-apartheid leaders.

In 1902 Harry Wolhuter was one of the first game rangers in the Sabi Nature Reserve, which would eventually, along with the Shingwedzi Nature Reserve, become the Kruger National Park. Originally a hunter, Wolhuter made the protection of the Kruger's wildlife his life's work. Memories of a game hunter tells of his days in the bush, when rangers went on horseback and lions considered them fair game - like the infamous time Harry was ambushed by two lions and managed to kill one of them while it was dragging him off into the grass. There was very little in the way of danger Harry didn't have to cope with - from crocodiles in swimming pools to irate hippos at ranger posts - and that's not even taking into account the poachers, the malaria or the little old ladies wanting protection from those fearsome giraffes ... Harry Wolhuter, born in 1876, was a legendary ranger in the Kruger National Park and completed 44 years of service before retiring in 1948. Today the Lindanda Memorial marks the spot where he killed the lion, and the lion's skin is still on display in the Stevenson-Hamilton Library in Skukuza. He died in 1964.

Alfred, Lord Milner was a brilliant public servant and one of Britain's most celebrated - or notorious - empire-builders, who left an indelible imprint on the history of South Africa.
Sent to southern Africa to bring President Paul Kruger's obstreperous Boers to heel, Milner was primarily, though not solely, responsible for the Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902), a conflict that marked the beginning of the end of the British Empire. In the aftermath of the war, a determined Milner set out to reconstruct the former Boer republics, but his policies stoked resentment among Afrikaners, particularly in respect of language and education. He left behind a coterie of young administrators, the so-called Kindergarten, who contributed significantly to the unification of South Africa and the fostering of imperial ideals through the Round Table Movement.
In this biography, the first by a South African, Richard Steyn argues that Milner's reputation should not be defined by his eight years' service in South Africa alone. Despite his controversial stance on the issue of Irish Home Rule, Milner's legendary administrative ability made him the obvious choice for War Secretary in Lloyd George's five-man War Cabinet, and Milner did much to shape the Allied victory in the First World War.
If his personal qualities and beliefs made him the wrong man to send to South Africa, where he failed to accomplish the over-ambitious goals he set himself, he was the right man in a far greater international conflict.

Mind Over Mountain is a journey from the seat of a wheelchair to the summit of the highest mountain on Earth.
A simple mistake at an indoor climbing gym sentenced 28-year-old Robby to a year in a wheelchair, shattering his aspirations of becoming a mountaineer. In the months that followed, Robby faced depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts and a complete loss of a sense of his own identity. But from somewhere deep inside him he summoned up the strength to keep going even when all seemed lost, and from there he went on to embark on a journey that would become a remarkable feat of mental and physical strength.

This story is more than a biography or an account of a mountaineering expedition - it's a trip into hell and back, an awe-inspiring effort to chase the ultimate dream and rebuild a life worth living for.

THE TIMES TOP 10 BESTSELLER 'A gripping story in which Justine Picardie brilliantly contrasts the cruel Old World of wartime France with the hopeful New World epitomised by Christian Dior's New Look.' ANTONIA FRASER 'An incredible story of courage, endurance and passion.' MARIA GRAZIA CHIURI, Creative Director of Dior 'An extraordinary biography.' SUNDAY TIMES 'Exceptional . . . Miss Dior is so much more than a biography.' DAILY TELEGRAPH Miss Dior is a story of freedom and fascism, beauty and betrayal, roses and repression, and how the polished surface of fashion conceals hidden depths. It paints a portrait of the enigmatic woman behind the designer Christian Dior: his beloved younger sister Catherine, who inspired his most famous perfume and shaped his vision of femininity. Justine Picardie's journey takes her to Occupied Paris, where Christian honed his couture skills while Catherine dedicated herself to the French Resistance, until she was captured by the Gestapo and deported to the German concentration camp of Ravensbruck. With unparalleled access to the Dior family homes and archives, Picardie's research into Catherine's courageous life shines a new light on Christian Dior's legendary work, and reveals how his enchanting 'New Look' emerged out of the shadows of his sister's suffering. Tracing the wartime paths of the Dior siblings leads Picardie deep into other hidden histories, and different forms of resistance and sisterhood. She explores what it means to believe in beauty and hope, despite our knowledge of darkness and despair, and discovers the timeless solace of the natural world in the aftermath of devastation and destruction. The result is an exquisite and unforgettably moving book. *A beautiful, full colour illustrated book featuring exclusive images from the Dior archives* 'Catherine's story is beautifully, hauntingly told in spare and elegant prose by Picardie . . . moving and evocative.' THE TIMES 'The juxtaposition of the terrible shadows and dazzling light is one of the great strengths of this book . . . A very personal, very passionate book.' ARTEMIS COOPER, TIMES LITERARY SUPPLEMENT 'Picardie writes: 'The vestiges of Catherine's presence remain as a powerful reminder of the importance of freedom, and why it is worth fighting for.' There are few truer words.' THE SPECTATOR 'Picardie's book is of the moment, celebrating an unsung hero at a time when female influences are earning new acclaim.' VOGUE 'Miss Dior ensures the bravery of the women at Ravensbruck is not merely a distant echo.' i 'Beautiful.' OBSERVER 'Moving ang beautifully illustrated.' NEW STATESMAN 'Stunning.' RED 'Exquisite.' COUNTRY LIFE 'Not just beautifully written, this is also a stunningly beautiful book.' NOON

In the 1980s, Erika Bornman's family join, and ultimately move, to KwaSizabantu, a Christian mission based in KwaZulu-Natal, which is touted as a nirvana, founded on egalitarian values. But something sinister lurks beneath 'the place where people are helped'.
Life at KwaSizabantu is hard. Christianity is used to justify harsh punishments and congregants are forced to repent for their sins. Threats of physical violence ensure adherence to stringent rules. Parents are pitted against children. Friendships are discouraged. Isolated and alone, Erika lives in constant fear of eternal damnation.
At 16, her grooming at the hands of a senior mission councillor begins. For the next five years, KwaSizabantu wages emotional, psychological and sexual warfare on her, until, finally, she manages to break free and escape at the age of 21.
Escaping a cult is difficult, but rehabilitation into 'normal' life after a decade of ritual humiliation, brainwashing and abuse is much more painful, as Erika soon discovers. She cannot ignore her knowledge of the grievous human-rights abuses being committed at KwaSizabantu, and so she embarks on a quest to expose the atrocities.
Mission of Malice - My Escape from a Fundamentalist Cult chronicles Erika's journey from a fearful young girl to a fierce activist determined to do whatever it takes to save future generations and find personal redemption and self-acceptance.

This is how journalist Jeremy Maggs began his television interview with Mmusi Maimane in 2011 when he was unveiled as the Democratic Alliance's mayoral candidate for Johannesburg. Since then, the charismatic Maimane's rise from obscurity to leader of the DA in 2015 has been nothing short of meteoric.

His anointment as leader of the DA made history, marking the completion of this political party's transformation from 'white' political party to one whose new leader shared similar experiences to those of the majority voters. Yet there are those, even within the party, who denounce Maimane as nothing more than a puppet dancing to the tune of white masters.

So who is the real Maimane? Experienced political reporter S'thembiso Msomi goes behind the scenes to examine how and why Maimane rose head up the opposition party. He delves into Maimane's formative years, his time at the pulpit in the church, and his family, to bring substance to the man.

Msomi also examines Maimane's first year as head of the DA in the run-up to the local government elections, assessing how this young man has negotiated the often treacherous waters of political power. Finally, the author attempts to answer these burning questions: is Maimane his own man, and can he deliver the electorate that the DA so fervently desires?

In August 1993, Fulbright scholar Amy Biehl was killed in Cape Town by a group of black teenagers incited by an upsurge in 'anti-white' sloganeering. She died just a few metres away from Sindiwe Magona's house. One of the boys held responsible for the killing was her neighbour's son. Mother to mother takes the form of an epistle to Amy Biehl's mother. Sindiwe Magona imagines how easily it might have been her own son caught up in the violence of that day. She writes about their lives in a colonised society that not only allowed, but also perpetuated violence against women and impoverished black South Africans. The result is not an apology for murder, but an exquisitely written exploration of the lives of ordinary people in the apartheid years.
