After the outstanding critical acclaim of her previous album of Tchaikovsky & Sibelius Violin Concertos with Staatskapelle Berlin and Daniel Barenboim, Lisa Batiashvili presents a masterful version of Prokofiev's two violin concertos, in another first-class musical partnership, with Chamber Orchestra of Europe and Yannick Nézet-Séguin. With her unique talent to turn standard repertoire into something new, fresh, elegant and special, this album will allow the listener to rediscover Prokofiev through Lisa's eyes. Set for release on 2 February 2018, the album features the core classic Prokofiev (violin concertos), as well as selected movements of his famous ballets with their very recognizable tunes (Cinderella, Romeo and Juliet, The Love for Three Oranges), newly arranged for Solo Violin and Orchestra by Tamás Batiashvili, Lisa's father.

Tianwa Yang is 'an artist of exceptional technique and musicianship' (BBC Music Magazine) and has established herself as a leading international performer and recording artist, winning the Annual Prize of the German Record Critics 2014 for her acclaimed recordings of Sarasate's complete violin works. Her 'stunning effortless virtuosity' and 'uncanny affinity for Spanish music' (All Things Strings) make her the ideal advocate for the music presented on this recording. The Introduction et Rondo capriccioso is a glittering showcase imbued with the passion of Iberian dance, while the Havanaise in E major is a languorous habanera. Less frequently heard are the evocative Caprice andalou, the songful Romance in C major, the rhapsodic Morceau de concert, and the improvisatory La Muse et le Poete.

This album marks Italian violinist Francesca Dego's debut orchestral recording on the Deutsche Grammophon label.

It features two Italian masterpieces: Wolf-Ferrari's seldom-performed Violin Concerto and Paganini's renowned Violin Concerto Number 1, which celebrates its 200th anniversary this year.

Francesca recorded Wolf-Ferrari's Violin Concerto live in March 2017, when she gave the UK premiere of the piece at Symphony Hall with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the renowned Italian conductor Daniele Rustioni.

Francesca regularly appears with the world's leading orchestras, performing both the Paganini and Wolf-Ferrari concertos extensively in the future.

The Z.E.N. Trio - pianist Zhang Zuo, violinist Esther Yoo and cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan - met on the BBC New Generation Artists' scheme in 2015 and have since performed concerts together for BBC radio as well as across the UK and elsewhere in Europe.

While the trio's name, “Z.E.N.” is an acronym for the three artists' initials, it also represents the philosophy with which they approach chamber music making - the forgoing of the self for total togetherness.

An imaginative and electrifying performer, Zhang Zuo (“Zee Zee”) began her musical training in Germany at the age of five.

Upon returning to her native China, she became one of the most sought after young artists in the nation, collaborating with leading Chinese orchestras with whom she retains a close link.

Esther Yoo first came to international attention in 2010 when, aged 16, she became the youngest prize winner of the 10th International Sibelius Violin Competition.

From 2014 to 2016 she was a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, culminating in her BBC Proms debut.

Esther plays regular return engagements with Philharmonia Orchestra at London's Royal Festival Hall as well as with Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and has performed in tours across Asia and South America.

Since winning the Cello First Prize and Gold Medal at the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2011 at the age of 22, Narek Hakhnazaryan has performed with most major orchestras across the globe and has established himself internationally as one of the finest cellists of his generation.

Universally considered as one of the greatest violinists of our time, Anne-Sophie Mutter's stunning and multi-faceted music-making extends across masterworks from the full breadth of the violin repertoire.

Mutterissimo - The Art of Anne-Sophie Mutter is a selection of highlights from her discography, personally picked by Mutter herself, bringing together recordings that date for the most part from the last twenty years. It invites listeners to undertake two tours of Anne-Sophie Mutter's multiple worlds of music:

The first explores the highways and byways of the core repertory and features well-known works for violin and orchestra by Dvořák and Schumann alongside less familiar pieces. The second one, often with Mutter's long-standing piano partner, Lambert Orkis, combines virtuosity and light-heartedness; the popular and the surprising; and emotion and rhythmic energy.

For many years Anne-Sophie Mutter has performed not only in major international concert halls but recently also in clubs, where a young audience, largely unconcerned with traditional rituals, reacts to the music much more spontaneously. It is only logical, therefore, that she increasingly uses social media to engage in a dialogue with her fans.

Kliphuis graduated from the Amsterdam Conservatoire a classical musician, but caught the improvisation bug during his studies. After meeting Stéphane Grappelli, the Parisian violinist with whom guitar legend Django Reinhardt created gypsy jazz, Kliphuis realised that improvisation was in his DNA. This music soon made him a name on the international scene: his albums are lauded worldwide and his study method Stéphane Grappelli Gypsy Jazz Violin, released with the renowned American publishing house Mel Bay, is now a standard work for the improvising violinist. The album Reflecting the Seasons, classical, jazz and folk meet in a completely natural way: “I've always wanted to do something like this, but it took until now to actually realise my vision. So I guess you can say I'm a late developer.”

These two concertos - one a staple of the repertoire, the other almost unknown - share melodic richness and a Spanish influence. Lalo's Symphonie espagnole reflects the quicksilver technique of its dedicatee, Pablo de Sarasate, in its ingenious and virtuosic passagework, with its moods and rhythms indelibly Iberian in feel. Joan Manén, in his day almost as famous as his fellow Catalan Pau Casals, was an admired virtuoso violinist and a prominent composer. His Concierto español, the first of three violin concertos, is suffused with technical demands, lyric warmth, and rhapsodic nostalgia. Soloist Tianwa Yang's Sarasate recordings have received international acclaim.

Winner of the prestigious Echo Klassik Instrumentalist of the Year 2015 Award for her Naxos recording Ysaÿe's 6 Sonatas for Solo Violin, the Best Up-and-Coming Artist 2014 Award and the Annual Prize of the German Record Critics 2014 for her Naxos recordings of the Mendelssohn Violin Concertos and Complete Music for Violin by Sarasate, Tianwa Yang is referred to as “an unquestioned master of the violin” by American Record Guide who “rises above her competition” (Fanfare), while quickly establishing herself as a leading international performer and recording artist. Of her previously released recordings of Pablo de Sarasate's complete works for violin, David Hurwitz of ClassicsToday.com calls Ms. Yang a “sensationally talented violinist,” while All Things Strings speaks of her “stunning effortless virtuosity” and “uncanny affinity for Spanish music.”

BBC Music Magazine Concerto Choice
Presto Recordings of the Year Finalist 2016

Violinist Joshua Bell and cellist Steven Isserlis are joined by two acclaimed musical forces - pianist Jeremy Denk and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, of which Bell is Music Director - in a landmark joint recording, For the Love of Brahms (Sony Classical). Available September 30, 2016, the new album is a unique project that features works of Brahms and Schumann that Bell calls “music about love and friendship.”

Bell, Isserlis and Denk unite here in Brahms's first published chamber work, the Piano Trio in B Major, Op. 8 in its rarely performed original 1854 version. Isserlis also joins Bell - as violin soloist and director - and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields in Brahms's last orchestral work, the celebrated Double Concerto (for Violin and Cello) in A Minor, Op. 102. Bell, Isserlis and members of the Academy also offer the first recording of an unusual coupling: the slow movement of Schumann's rarely heard Violin Concerto, in a version for string orchestra made by Benjamin Britten, who also added a short coda.

“I met Steven almost 30 years ago at a music festival, and he has been my close friend and frequent chamber music partner ever since. Jeremy and I have also shared a long-lasting friendship and we have recorded and performed together for more than a decade,” states Bell. “Therefore it is fitting that we all come together on this record to play music that is so deeply rooted in love and friendship.” Earlier this year, Bell, Isserlis and the Academy performed the Brahms Double Concerto to critical acclaim on an 11-date European tour, which Bell play-directed. The tour also featured the Schumann, and this recording followed. “Steven and I have performed the Double concerto of Brahms many times over the years, and I am so pleased that we found the perfect collaborators in the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields so we could finally record this piece that means so much to us,” adds Bell.

For the Love of Brahms continues Joshua Bell's long and acclaimed partnership with the London-based Academy of St Martin in the Fields. Since 2011, Bell has been the orchestra's principal conductor, succeeding its founder Sir Neville Marriner and the only other person to hold that title. Bell's most recent Sony Classical recordings with the orchestra include Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, a Bach concerto collection, and Bell's first recording solely as a conductor, of Beethoven's Fourth and Seventh Symphonies.

Pablo de Sarasate was one of the most successful violinists in history, reigning supreme as an incandescent musical personality in the days when violinist-composers were a significant feature of concert life. Tianwa Yang has been described as “an unquestioned master of the violin...the rarest of violinists” (American Record Guide), and each volume of these stunning works for violin and orchestra has been received with great international acclaim. Yang has achieved recognition as one of the world's outstanding instrumentalists with the 2014 Annual Prize of the German Record Critics for her Naxos recordings of the Complete Music for Violin by Sarasate, and she was named the 2015 ECHO Klassik Instrumentalist of the Year (Violin) for her Ysaÿe 6 Sonatas for Solo Violin - Naxos 8572995.

Hummel, conductor, composer and pianist, whose death ended the great Viennese lineage of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, produced a series of inspired arrangements of Mozart's symphonies between 1823 and 1824. As a child of eight he had lodged and studied with Mozart, and these arrangements demonstrate a profound understanding of his teacher's art. He refused to vary a single harmony but did make some changes to accommodate contemporary early Romantic taste, and to bring out intensity of orchestral colour as well as offering opportunities for pianistic virtuosity.

Hummel stands as the last in the great Viennese line which embraced Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. He lived and studied with Mozart in his youth and, despite a career which saw him triumph as a conductor, composer and virtuoso pianist, Hummel never lost his reverence for his celebrated teacher. Intensified through changes in dynamics and the addition of extra accents, these stunningly effective arrangements preserve the integrity of Mozart's masterpieces while demonstrating a heartfelt appreciation and understanding of the greatest symphonies of his “immortal master”.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) started learning piano at the age of three and began composing two years later. What is less widely known is that he was also an accomplished violinist.

Pinchas Zukerman & Marc Neikrug recorded Mozart's sonatas for violin and piano in 1990. Now, for the first time, the cycle is available in a complete edition. As a bonus to this 6CD set, a duo sonata by Mozart's son, Franz Xaver, is included. (Franz Xaver was born on 26 July 1791, just five months before his father died).

Pinchas Zukerman (b. 1948) has remained a phenomenon in the world of music for over four decades. His musical genius, prodigious technique and unwavering artistic standards are a marvel to audiences and critics alike. Devoted to the next generation of musicians, he has continued to inspire younger artists with his talent and passion for the music.
