Following the success of the album 'Wien', esteemed tenor, Jonas Kaufmann, returns with a DVD and BluRay release of 'Mein Wein'. This is Jonas Kaufmann's deeply personal tribute to the world-famous melodies from Vienna, the birthplace of waltz and operetta and follows up the album release from Fall 2019. The 100-minute film consists of Jonas Kaufmann's Wiener Konzerthaus concert interspersed with documentary-style segments where Jonas Kaufmann explores the city's fascinating lighter musical heritage.

'Wien' features a stunning collection of operetta hits and Viennese songs composed between 1870 and 1950. Kaufmann teams up with the world-renowned Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and Adam Fischer. His concert from the Wiener Konzerthaus includes well-known Viennese songs like “Wien, Wien nur du allein”, “Im Prater blühn wieder die Bäume”, “Sag beim Abschied leise 'Servus'”. He also sings scenes from famous operettas such as The Merry Widow, Wiener Blut and Die Fledermaus where soprano Rachel Willis-Sørensen joins him on the duets. The city also inspired many timeless songs including Robert Stolz's “Im Prater blühn wieder die Bäume” and Rudolf Sieczyński's “Wien, Wien nur du allein”, Hans May's “Heut ist der Schönste Tag”; Hermann Leopoldi's “In einem kleinen Café in Hernals” and Georg Kreisler's “Der Tod muss ein Wiener sein” - to name a few of these charming songs championed down the years by the tenor-greats such as Richard Tauber, Rudolf Schock and Fritz Wunderlich.

2-CD digipack celebrating René Kollo's 80th birthday, a tribute to this multi-faceted artist and lively entertainer whose career spanned over four decades. The collection spans the wide range of his repertoire: on the one hand legendary Heldentenor roles with conductors such as Bernstein, Kleiber and Solti, on the other, operettas, folksongs and Weill's “Threepenny Opera.” Also included is one of Kollo's big early successes as a pop singer: his charming 1961 German-language version of the international hit “Mary Lou.”.

One of the most beloved and acclaimed Wagner tenors of the 20th century, his first Tannhäuser was recorded with Georg Solti as early as 1970. Following his Lohengrin triumph at Bayreuth, Herbert von Karajan invited him to perform at the Salzburg Easter Festival in a production of Die Meistersinger with the Berliner Philharmoniker. A studio recording with the Dresden Staatskapelle followed as did international débuts in quick succession: Vienna, Chicago, New York, London. And of course, Kollo was de rigueur in Bayreuth's “Centennial Ring” conducted by Pierre Boulez.

His vast operatic repertoire encompassed Tamino to Florestan, Don José and Otello to Benjamin Britten's Peter Grimes. In his stunning live performances Kollo identified completely with his roles and brought impressive character studies whether as Tannhäuser or Tristan, Herodes in Salome or Macheath in The Threepenny Opera.

This beloved operetta, which takes place during Carnival celebrations in 18th-century in Venice, shows Strauss's descriptive writing at its best, helped by his love of Italy. Eine Nacht in Venedig inspired Strauss to compose some of his most successful operetta-music. The Italian atmosphere, the sun, the sea and the Venetian way of life appealed to his creative imagination

The stellar cast includes such eminent singer as Anton de Ridder, Sylvia Geszty, Julia Migenes and Trudeliese Schmiedt; Kurt Eichhorn conducts the Münchner Rundfunkorchester

This film-production from 1973 was made by the well known Czech conductor and stage director Vaclav Kaslik

Among other songs in this operetta, two in particular immediately come to the music-lover´s mind: the infatuating yearning “Komm in die Gondel mein Liebchen” and the captivating waltz “Ach wie so herrlich zu schauen sind all die reizenden Frauen”
