In the early 1990s, a young Johann van Loggerenberg became a long-term deep cover agent for a unit investigating organised crime.
As agent RS536, he took on the guise of a drug smuggler in the Durban underworld and slowly infiltrated different crime syndicates. His transformation was so complete that within a few years he became one of the top five most wanted individuals in KwaZulu-Natal. But then his cover suddenly came under threat.

Van Loggerenberg was given documents containing information on so-called third force activities - where Military Intelligence and the Security Branch supplied weapons to the Inkatha Freedom Party. He dreaded sharing this information with the Goldstone Commission. Disaster threatened when former members of the Security Branch, who had since been transferred to his unit, got wind of this and started a campaign to discredit him.

This fascinating portrait of the criminal underworld is packed with action and drama.

The story of how a noted tech venture capitalist, an early mentor to Mark Zuckerberg and investor in his company, woke up to the serious damage Facebook was doing to our society and set out to try to stop it.

If you had told Roger McNamee even three years ago that he would soon be devoting himself to stopping Facebook from destroying our democracy, he would have howled with laughter. He had mentored many tech leaders in his illustrious career as an investor, but few things had made him prouder, or been better for his fund's bottom line, than his early service to Mark Zuckerberg. Still a large shareholder in Facebook, he had every good reason to stay on the bright side. Until he simply couldn't.

ZUCKED is McNamee's intimate reckoning with the catastrophic failure of the head of one of the world's most powerful companies to face up to the damage he is doing. It's a story that begins with a series of rude awakenings. First there is the author's dawning realization that the platform is being manipulated by some very bad actors. Then there is the even more unsettling realization that Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg are unable or unwilling to share his concerns, polite as they may be to his face.

And then comes the election of Donald Trump, and the emergence of one horrific piece of news after another about the malign ends to which the Facebook platform has been put. To McNamee's shock, even still Facebook's leaders duck and dissemble, viewing the matter as a public relations problem. Now thoroughly alienated, McNamee digs into the issue, and fortuitously meets up with some fellow travelers who share his concern, and help him sharpen its focus. Soon he and a dream team of Silicon Valley technologists are charging into the fray, to raise consciousness about the existential threat of Facebook, and the persuasion architecture of the attention economy more broadly -- to our public health and to our political order.

Zucked is both an enthralling personal narrative and a masterful explication of the forces that have conspired to place us all on the horns of this dilemma. This is the story of a company and its leadership, but it's also a larger tale of a business sector unmoored from normal constraints, just at a moment of political and cultural crisis, the worst possible time to be given new tools for summoning the darker angels of our nature and whipping them into a frenzy. Like Jimmy Stewart in Rear Window, Roger McNamee happened to be in the right place to witness a crime, and it took him some time to make sense of what he was seeing and what we ought to do about it. The result of that effort is a wise, hard-hitting, and urgently necessary account that crystallizes the issue definitively for the rest of us.

As a minority in a predominantly white institution, taking up space is an act of resistance. Recent Cambridge grads Chelsea and Ore experienced this first-hand and wrote Taking Up Space as a guide and a manifesto for change.
FOR BLACK GIRLS: Understand that your journey is unique. Use this book as a guide. Our wish for you is that you read this and feel empowered, comforted, and validated in every emotion you experience, or decision that you make.
FOR EVERYONE ELSE: We can only hope that reading this helps you to be a better friend, parent, sibling, or teacher to black girls living through what we did. It's time we stepped away from seeing this as a problem that black people are charged with solving on their own. It's a collective effort. And everyone has a role to play. Featuring honest conversations with students past and present, Taking Up Space goes beyond the buzzwords of diversity and inclusion and explores what those words truly mean for young black girls today.

Zimbabwe-born author Douglas Rogers pieces together the dramatic story of a real-life Game of Thrones: the political-military operation that overthrew Robert Mugabe and united a nation. He discovers that what at first appeared to be a spontaneous military uprising against a detested African dictator was in fact something far more remarkable: a long-planned, meticulously executed military, political and diplomatic operation that will go down as the greatest coup in African history. Drawing on interviews with a host of larger-than-life characters who planned or carried it out, as well as stories of those who witnessed or were removed by it, Endgame is a heart-racing thriller, one part life-or-death escape, one part stunning military raid, and one part high stakes legal drama.

In hierdie distopiese wêreld is alles afhanklik van jou SOMSS-telling (System of Moral and Social Suitability). Dit bepaal waar jy mag woon, watter kos jy by People Eats mag bestel en hoe gereeld jy met People Move mag ry.

THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER 'Black Leopard, Red Wolf is the kind of novel I never realized I was missing until I read it. A dangerous, hallucinatory, ancient Africa, which becomes a fantasy world as well-realized as anything Tolkien made, with language as powerful as Angela Carter's. I cannot wait for the next installment' Neil Gaiman

In this stunning follow-up to his Man Booker-winning A Brief History of Seven Killings, Marlon James draws on a rich tradition of African mythology, fantasy and history to imagine an ancient world, a lost child, an extraordinary hunter, and a mystery with many answers...

'The child is dead. There is nothing left to know.' Tracker is a hunter, known throughout the thirteen kingdoms as one who has a nose - and he always works alone. But he breaks his own rule when hired to find a lost child, he finds himself part of a group of hunters all searching for the same boy.
Each of these companions is stranger and more dangerous than the last, from a giant to a witch to a shape-shifting Leopard, and each has secrets of their own. As the mismatched gang follow the boy's scent from perfumed citadels to infested rivers to the enchanted darklands and beyond, set upon at every turn by creatures intent on destroying them, Tracker starts to wonder: who is this mysterious boy?
Why do so many people want to stop him from being found? And, most important of all, who is telling the truth and who is lying?
Marlon James weaves a tapestry of a breathtaking adventure through a world at once ancient and startlingly modern. And, against this exhilarating backdrop of magic and violence, he explores the fundamentals of truth, the limits of power, the excesses of ambition, and our need to understand them all.

Black Leopard, Red Wolf is the first novel in Marlon James's Dark Star Trilogy.

'A game-changing modern fantasy classic' Financial Times

'Complex, lyrical, moving, and furiously gripping... This new book will propel James into a new galaxy of literary stardom' Observer

'To call this novel original doesn't do [it] justice... James has thrown African cultures, mythologies, religions, histories, world-views, and topographies into the mighty cauldron of his imagination to create a work of literary magic' New Statesman
