In this fifth and last episode of the “transfigured” series, Petronel Malan dedicates herself, following Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Mozart to the works of Johannes Brahms. Once again the South African born and by choice New Yorker convinces with an extraordinary program full of interesting works. Composers such as Lowell Liebermann, Ludwig Stark or Ignaz Friedman put Brahms's four-handed chorales, tunes and works into a piano solo made mode. The world premiere of Brahms's Haydn variations Op 56a, originally composed for the orchestra, which has been modified by Ludwig Stark, completes this diversified portrait of a composer. Petronel Malan belongs without a doubt to one of the well-respected pianists of her age, which is impressively proven by the variety of many international awards, she has won.
